TEAM
ROGER
The Boss
Roger
qualified as a Chartered Accountant in July 1969. Since
that time he has worked in general practice in London
and Southampton and he spent several years in hotels including
some time as chief accountant at The Dorchester, Park
Lane. He opened Roger Smallman & Co 16 years ago and obtained
his registered auditor status in 1991. Roger personally
deals with all new clients; setting up the client's contact
himself to ensure each contract reflects the client's
exact needs. Only then will Roger introduce the client
to the relevant department managers.
He
prides himself and his team on how much they can save
you in taxes - the more the better! He lives just outside
Southampton with one wife, two stepchildren, three horses,
two cats and one enormous dog. In his spare time he enjoys
reading, music, watching films, taking long walks with
the big dog, eating, drinking and planning to diet tomorrow!
Roger also has a second job as a stable lad and general
mucker-outter.
SALLY
- Accounts Junior
Sally
is the newest member of the team joining us in October
1999. She is currently training for her Association
of Accounting Technicians exams. Currently she concentrates
on preparing clients accounts and working hard (night
and day) to get her technicians exams.
In
Sally's spare time, not that she has much, Sally enjoys socialising,
watching television and videos and going to the cinema.

BARBARA
- Accounts Senior
Barbara
trained with Woolley & Waldron (now Ernst & Young) from
1951 to 1963 when she left to start a family. In 1978
she returned to accountancy working for both herself and
a well-known firm in the Portsmouth area. She joined the
team at Roger Smallman & Co in May 1993. Barbara's main
duty's is the preparation of client's accounts. Barbara
also advises new clients on setting up their accounts
based on the world leading computerised accounting package,
the Sage Accounting System. Finally Barbara will happily
offer advice to companies wishing to establish manual
bookkeeping systems and answer general bookkeeping queries.
In
her spare time Barbara enjoys reading, gardening and looking
after her grandchildren.

BEN
- Accounts Senior
Ben
has a wealth of experience gleaned from his Military
Service, Estate Agency and other past-times. He joined
Roger Smallman & Co in 1989 - is it really 10 years
ago Ben? Ben has many responsibilities, including operating
the payroll for approximately 50 clients and preparing
management accounts for many of the clients. Ben is
a walking encyclopaedia and can advise on VAT, payroll,
sage accounts & bookkeeping and he explains it all in
plain English.
Ben
enjoys planning the garden, reading & helping to look
after the grandchildren.

CAROLE
- Audit Senior
Carole
joined the team in May 1996, a comparative baby. She
has a degree in Accountancy and is currently learning
all about the Internet, e-commerce and its impact on
new and small businesses. Carole is currently studying
hard for the finals of the Association of Chartered
Certified Accountants examinations. Carole's main duties
are the preparation of accounts and all aspects of auditing.
She is also responsible for all the IT requirements
of the practice and is happy to advise new and existing
clients alike on their own IT requirements.
In
her spare time Carole enjoys drinking and socialising
and socialising and drinking when she not drinking or
socialising she's doing DIY!

SHANE
- Taxation Consultant
Shane
joined the team as a self employed taxation consultant
in 1994. Her previous experience includes working for
the Inland Revenue for several years. She runs her own
taxation practice and is well versed in the intricacies
of taxation. Shane can be found at our offices in Bedford
Place 2 or 3 days a week when, by appointment, she will
give advice on all aspects of taxation.

In
her capacity as a consultant to Roger Smallman & Co, Shane
prepares client tax returns and deals with general taxation
requirements as well as offering tax advice to clients.
In her spare time she enjoys walking, drinking and socialising.

BRENDA
- Administrator
Before
joining Roger Smallman & Co in 1994, Brenda had worked
as an administrator for a variety of organisations including
Health Authority, Education Authority, a shipping company
and the local newspaper. She has also spent time working
in Europe. Brenda is responsible for all of the administration
of this busy practice including typing filing and keeping
the wheels oiled.
In
her spare time she enjoys beach and forest walking, drinking
and socialising.
